The following is an email to me (Ivan's dad) from Head Coach Mark Cagle:

Rex,
Obviously, I'm proud of Ivan's accomplishments and I know you and your wife are. He is a very special young man and I am very proud to have coached him. I'm glad he's getting the recognition, and I'm sure there's more to come. In an article that will come out soon about Ivan, I was asked what is his greatest attribute as a player. Can you guess what I said? Well, I'll tell you. I said that there was two things about Ivan that stood out to me. 1) He has an unbelievable innate sense and understanding for the game. That is, he understands what an offense is trying to do in specific formations , downs and distances, that is very rare with players. 2) He has the great gift of humbleness. He deflects a lot of attention off of himself. This kind of attitude endears himself to the other players and he keeps himself "hungry" to continue to play hard in an effort to maintain his high standard of play. He is a rare person and player. I've told him that I would love for him to come back and work with us after his playing days are over. I really meant it because you don't find individuals with that kind of character, work ethic, and innate sense for the game very often. Well, I guess I better run.
